“NV Magazine grew out of a need for access to professional business information specifically targeting the young African American community,” says Kyle Donovan, NV’s publisher and CEO of Envy Publishing Group. “There are a lot of notable trailblazers who have done tremendous work in paving the way for our up-and-coming generation of young urban professionals. The NV Awards is a reflection of the determination each of these visionaries possess.”

The NV Awards 2k3 marked NV Magazine’s five-year anniversary and saluted urban professionals who have demonstrated strong leadership in business and have used their vision to achieve remarkable inroads within their industry.
The first awards banquet held in 2001 was a huge success, attracting some of the country’s most innovative and successful young, African American business people. Hosted by television personality Sheryl Lee Ralph, the first NV Awards recognized business visionaries like former NBA star turned urban developer, Kevin Johnson, IT guru, Rodney Hunt and urban fashion legends FUBU, amongst others.
