Publisher's Note Feb/Mar 2K8

OUR ANNUAL BLACK & WHITE ISSUE

In celebration of Black History Month we once again publish our annual Black & White issue.

What is so beautiful about this issue is that it is actually printed using four different colors (black, cyan, magenta and yellow).Yet, the end result, as you see, is black and white. We feel that this is often a proper representation of the world. We all know that the world is made up of many different colors but many times it’s only seen in black and white. While this is a general perspective, I must say that I am proud to bear wit-ness to it undergoing some amazing changes.

These changes were never more apparent than from this year’s presidential race where we see two U.S. senators, one being an African American male and the other a white female, as well as, an Hispanic governor all competing for the Democratic nomination for the highest office in the land. I honestly believe that this is one of those occasions where the candidates are not looked at and judged by the color of their skin, but truly for the content of their character. I look forward to personally cov-ering this special and amazing presidential race with these amazing candidates who represent just some of the many colors of America. May America truly become not a mixture of blue states and red states but one, united, all-inclusive, colorless nation.

THE FORBES NV AWARDS

It is with great pleasure and honor that I at Forbes (the most respected magazine in the world) has decided to partner with NV on what will now be known as the FORBES NV Awards (our salute to urban professionals in business). This historical event will take place later this year in New York City and will honor some of the top urban pro-fessionals in business with many past honorees in the house to cheer them on. This partnership is very special for it proves that we all can work together no matter our race, creed or color. As long as the goal and vision are the same, then the successful completion of that mission is all that matters. I look forward to having you join us at this historic event as we honor the best and brightest in urban America.

ABOUT THIS ISSUE

One of the greatest things about business is that the only color that really matters at the end of the day is green. Can you do your job better than anyone else? Can you sell more goods than anyone else? Can you pull in more clients than anyone else? If you can, then I definitely believe that regardless of the color of you skin, you will rise as high as the vision that you have imagined for yourself. Sometimes to complete that vision one must stand alone. Sometimes it means being the “one & only” in your field. In this issue you will find the brave stories of individuals who have done just that. May their stories, vision and success prove inspiring as you work to accomplish your goals and fulfill your vision.

A big thank you to the creator of all things, my advertisers, subscribers, staff and the Forbes organization.
